Five years of war, then cholera, famine, and now COVID-19: Yemen is suffering the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

With a health system that has essentially collapsed thanks to half a decade of conflict, the coronavirus is now spreading rapidly across the country. The outbreak has already killed hundreds, with dozens dying each day in their homes – having nowhere to turn to for help.

The lack of a functioning healthcare system, and limited access to safe water and hygiene poses a serious threat to controlling the disease.

“Here, it’s hard to apply basic hygiene practices,” said seventy-year-old Mohsen – who now lives in a makeshift camp after fleeing violence. “People lack water and soap and they can’t stay at home because they need to work and provide for their families regardless of the virus… I’m afraid if COVID-19 spreads further, we won’t be able to meet our basic needs.”

There are 24 million people just like Moshen in urgent need of help in Yemen – that’s as many as the entire population of Australia.

Your donation to Yemen could help save their lives.

How donating to CARE is helping the people of Yemen

CARE is reaching more than 1 million people every month in Yemen, providing lifesaving food, water, medical supplies, and other critical aid to those in need.

CARE has worked in Yemen since 1992 and is one of few international aid agencies braving the conflict and continuing to deliver humanitarian aid under extremely challenging circumstances. We have already reached millions people in some of the hardest-hit and most hard-to-reach areas.

Working with local partner organisations, we are repairing water systems, constructing toilets, distributing hygiene kits and relief supplies. This is all made possible by charitable donations to Yemen by people like you.

To limit the spread of the pandemic, CARE is providing hygiene kits to families living in makeshift camps, delivering safe water to public facilities like hospitals and schools, and supporting solid waste disposal through clean up campaigns in public spaces.
